and you have to mount the ext3 filesystem as ext2. and based on
my past experience with it, it's no good.

since it's a development server, next time try to use a version control
system on your config files and dont exclude them from your normal
backup system.

warning, these are aimed at ext2 filesystems, so results of using these on ext3  aren't too good.
