You already know my preferences on an x86 based workstation or server :) As for a laptop, a Pentium M is quite a good CPU. Not much of a battery guzzler, and the Speedstep works just fine in Linux with a cpufreq governor. I haven't had the chance or the money to get an Intel Core Duo machine (that might take a few years for me hahahaha :). It'll also take some more time before SMP boxes such as the Athlon64 X2, Pentium D or Core Duo would be mainstream, and as such, that would also mean that most code will still be single-threaded for the time being (X.org releasing all hell when it comes to SMP, and Python sucking so bad with its GIL when threading is done). -- Paolo Alexis Falcone [EMAIL PROTECTED]
