FYI: Most linux distributions already include python in their package.
Just try firing up the python interpreter on your shell by typing "python".
In case you would like to install it from scratch, I believe there's
debian and rpm based packages of python. Better yet install it from
source by downloading the *.tar.gz packages where "./configure {params}
&& make & make install" will do.
