Firewall, might be. Now I found out that even an ssh2 connection to the public ip (router's IP) has a problem. I can connect, I can type my username and password.. get to the bash prompt. Execute ls -l. Got a few lines of the file listing.. and the connection was dropped.
debug log says:
Apr 6 20:44:10 makati sshd(pam_unix)[20936]: session closed for user raul
Apr 6 20:45:14 makati sshd[20959]: Connection from ::ffff:XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX port 3251
Apr 6 20:45:17 makati sshd[20959]: Accepted password for raul from ::ffff: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX port 3251 ssh2
Apr 6 20:45:17 makati sshd(pam_unix)[20961]: session opened for user raul by (uid=0)
Apr 6 20:45:18 makati sshd[20961]: Read error from remote host ::ffff:XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX: Connection reset by peer
Apr 6 20:45:18 makati sshd(pam_unix)[20961]: session closed for user raul
Could it be a router issue?

This may be due to your firewall policies, pls check that.
