I have tried searching for Linux-compatible USB modems for years. (Dial-up modems. There are some DSL and GPRS USB modems available that are compatible with Linux.) Unfortunately, no one's selling them locally. The best thing to do use on Linux is a serial modem. If a serial port is not available, they could always buy one of those USB-RS232 adapters. Most of the ones available locally seems to be compatible with Linux (chipset supported in the kernel). -- Gideon N.
