Thanks a lot for your suggestions (I was actually beginning to like the idea of a hard disk paperweight, hehehe). Unfortunately (or should I say otherwise) I was not able to try both your suggestions because when I plugged in the my USB-IDE external drive using the same disk last night, it worked OK. Aahhh... The mysteries of machines...
