Im currently using opensuse 10.1, on Dell B130, i dont think i have to pay for support for SLEDesktop 10.1 :) Anyway it is an option for corporate users which may have budget for it. Im running on KDE for some reason but I would like to test xgl later. Yast Control Center has even a support for XEN which I have still to get my hand on it but currently I also have VMWare on Windows box. Anytime soon I will be trashing windows and that means goodbye to extra $100 something for XP pro and Im not afraid voiding my warranty with Dell and put linux on this laptop. This is because there is nothing that Im used to do in windows that I cant do in Linux like office productivity and multi-media beside that its free and open source.

Linux desktop regardless of distro are getting more "cool" compared to windows and mac.The only thing that hampers Linux in desktop, not so much in server area, are the proprietary device drivers which distros even Suse will not provide support because of license issues. This understandable to our p.o.v. but for the most users who will argue  "this device works with windows and mac" this is an issue.

Yes there are work around but does every regular users has to deal with this challenges?

Hi

Have you ever tried the new version of Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop Edition (10.1 Final) I have read amazing online review about. Manufacturer like Lenovo are going to release a highend laptop which is preinstalled with this new Linux. Have anyone in this forum ever tried the XGL which enhances the user interface ala Mac OS X.
