jay,

is there a possibility that you only downloaded the minimal iso (i.e. boot.iso
instead of the iso image of the full installer)? to cut the long chase can you
give us some more information like:

  - what linux distro are you trying to install?
  - what is the full filename of the iso image you are trying to burn?
  - where did you get/download the iso image?
  - did the md5sum/sha1 of the iso image match the md5/sha1 file in the mirror
servers?

for more information about checking the md5sum you may visit
http://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=4638 . only the utilities will be
different if you want to use the sha1 sum.

ciao!
