Thanks Jerome for the edubuntu suggestion.
I got it all working ...up to logging in with a workstation.
My only bubu is that i cant login as a client. I tried using an account on
the server but its not working.

Please advice.

Oh 1 more thing I used 10.0.0.X 
Can you give me a sample dhcpd.conf using this IP.

Since your email domain is from a school, try looking at Edubuntu's
LTSP implementation which is actually the implementation of the muekow
spec on having a standard ltsp in distro packages (which will
eventually be implemented in other distros).
