gNewSense removes the binary blobs of software that are essentially
non-free so if you are going to use it in a laptop, chances are, your
wifi will not work because the driver is non-free (ipw2200 for
instance). If you are using it on a desktop, the chances of it to work
out of the box would be higher.

When we talk of non-free in gNewSense, we mean non-free in FSF terms
(which makes sense after all development of gNewSense is funded by
FSF).

One may ask "ok what's the difference between ubuntu?" Aside from the
stuff I mentioned above, there are uses who do mind the freedom of
using a computer without any hitches - I for one am very upset of not
being able to do good accelerated graphics with free drivers (I have
to rely on non-free nvida-glx drivers) that won't affect other aspects
of my machine's functions (hibernate/suspend for instance).

Of course, if your motherboard doesn't support a free BIOS (LinuxBIOS
for example), then you are not yet truly free...ahh the complexities
of freedom.
