Working with a telco right now. Most common Linux deployments are using RHEL4 AS (not surprising) running on HP DL585 or Sun X4100/X4200/X4600 hardware.
Only the OS is open-source though.. Java is pervasive (they use Spring for a lot of things, it flies on the Sun T2000 with the Niagara processor), DB is you-know-what, middleware is iAS, on top of that are things like SOA Suite or ESB. On 2/24/07, andrelst <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
Have a contract with a big Telco few months ago and a Bank currently... both are not on the Phil. though. Here are some insights on some Linux strategy: - All are RHEL OS - Hardware is either HP/IBM Blades or standard X86 rackables HW. - Apache/postfix/cyrus/java are popular - Vmware ESX on dev/uat on one box to save money - Middleware is proprietary though... Weblogic or Websphere. - Backend database is also proprietary... no surprise, it's Oracle. As you can see, the first tier is opensource on both software and application. Middle Tier and Back end tier is proprietary solution except the OS.
