But this isn't a question of popularity.  Those people use an editor
because they don't know any better or perhaps have no choice in the
matter, and just use what comes with the system that they use.  It's
like saying that IE is the better web browser when it comes up as the
vast majority of User-Agent hits on any given web site.  That, of
course, says absolutely nothing about how good IE is, only that more
people take the path of least resistance and use the browser that comes
with the system they're using.

The people at the top of the programming skill chain would most likely
have a better idea of what constitutes a good editor, than these
workaday programmers of whom only a few have ever programmed or even
seen a system different from their own, and thus know of no other
alternatives.
