My Pidgin v2 is working fine with Googletalk, Yahoo! Messenger, and IRC on my 64-bit Feisty.

Is anybody here using the IM client formerly known as Gaim (Pidgin) to log in to Googletalk? I keep getting an error message about "SSL support unavailable". I'm using Debian Lenny with some unstable packages. I thought I thought of installing pidgin-encryption package but it makes no difference. I can connect to Yahoo fine. If this is a real problem, can anybody recommend another IM (Jabber?) client that can connect to Gmail?
