Which is why LVM should have been used to begin with.  I've found that
since Linux 2.6.10 the kernel has been capable of doing online resizing
of Ext3 filesystems.  The only problem is that Linux will not reread
the partition table if the device is already mounted, so even if you
managed to grow the filesystem by editing the partition table, the
kernel would not know of the changes to the partition table until the
filesystem is remounted...
