check your named.conf to where the files are pointed. if its chroot, maybe you
have to put your named.ca or named.root or the root server files under the
directory /var/named/chroot/var/named

named.conf

directory "/var/named";

get going due to this error. I decided to use rpm. I installed bind,
bind-chroot and caching-nameserver. I now configured named.conf but no zone
files yet. When I start the named, it says:

 could not configure root hints from 'named.root': file not found

My directory is in /var/named/chroot/etc. I have named.root in that directory.
Here is the portion of the root hints in my named.conf:

zone "." IN {
        type hint;
        file "named.root";
        };

I have tried Google yesterday but up to now, I'm still stuck. Would you think
there are other services that is conflict? I have tried install bind via source
before but it was an old version
