achiving is one thing while searching is another issue. for the latter, just
make sure that your system supports tagging in order to make your image
search more refined unless you want to implement a search feature that uses
image recognition, then you might want to join this team[1] instead?  :)

you might also want to add a Thumbnail Generator using ImageMagick  and use
those thumbnails for viewing the images in order to decrease the load on the
web server. and for serving thumbnails, consider using LigHTTPD[2].
