IBM invests $10M in EnterpriseDB[1], a leading Postgresql support vendor, to compete with MySQL on the open source side and with Oracle on the propietary side. IBM have its own propietary database which is DB2 while Sun also backs Postgresql and preferred by Oracle before acquiring MySQL AB. and the list goes on....
