Patents? Forget it, patent claims will only hold if you can prove first claim implementation and in the world of IT; for any ideas you come up, 6 other people has the same idea. Now unlike manufacturing or other industry its so easy to implement an idea in IT -- actually is almost mandatory that we create prototypes of our ideas therefore 6 other first claim implementation exist before you even finished writing the first line of your application. In the end your patent claim will be void and the only true use of patent is an excuse get into a lawsuit and out run your compitetor's money.
But that's not the end of it, even if you can prove that you have first claim implementation, it still needs to be highly unique and complex, such that the idea is not a common solution or a de facto process such as user views, db schemes, etc (all those what we call user and application preference types) Maybe you should file for some other IPR stuff but not patent it, because i can bet ya that what you have right now for VOIP... i already have the same thing implemented few years back :D On Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 11:14 AM, KRTorio <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Our company is applying for patents to our software. > We're using open source software (php frontend, database is mysql, asterisk > for voip applications). > > Is it ok for the whole software to be patented, ok for some parts only > (patentable ones like user views, database schema), or none at all? > > _________________________________________________ > Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List > http://lists.linux.org.ph/mailman/listinfo/plug > Searchable Archives: http://archives.free.net.ph > -- -- Roger P.
