Can you give the list more information about your hardware? For example, is it restricted to "hard disk" devices only? Or are there other alternative options to booting up your device using a non-disk-type media? You can start also by checking your BIOS if it supports other boot source/s like a USB device for example. You may also pry open your Carputer to physically inspect your SBC if the external casing does not show such ports, but the BIOS says otherwise. I had luck for far, with the use of a well partitioned (512M or 1G) CF, that is divided into minix (boot image partition), ext3 (datafile partition), and a small ratio is even devoted to a 128M swapfs (for 1G CF). As side note, I personally would not select an SBC, with BIOS that can only boot up from a hard disk, and use it for the purpose of developing a CarPC project.
