that "screwed per core licensing" is what enables oracle to turn huge
profits and buy other companies. And oracle's customers are paying up.
It's like Cornelius Vanderbilt said, if you have to ask, you can't
afford it.

I believe mysql will continue on: after all oracle purchased sleepycat
several years ago and it's still open source. More importantly, it
also turns a profit.

Correction according to a WSJ article on the deal, oracle wanted java,
solaris, and mysql. The supposed deal 2 months ago (pre IBM offer)
was for oracle to get these 3 software pillars, and HP to get the
hardware biz. But sun turned out to be too complex to divvy up.
