Hi,

Low end: Any ION1 or ION2 with atom CPU will do like the zotac mobos or
REVO's (all-in-one). Yes, my rinky dink REVO r1600 single core can do 1080p
with codec help.
Mid range: Any AMD/Intel dual cores + Nvidia GT2xxx and up will do. AMD
fusion is also also on these category.
upper range: i3/AMD phenom or athlon and up. i3+intel gpu on sandy bridge
support for XBMC is still experimental.

A few notes:
  * Go for Nvidia GPU pairings if possible.
  * Check mobo Sound card chipsets supported by ALSA.
  * Linux distribution for these hybrid is Ubuntu 64bit + XBMC repos. XBMC
Live is based on ubuntu aynway, so you get very good compatibility.
  * Good HTPC/NAS case is the NmediaPC 1000b. Supports 4HDD + 1HDD (DVD not
used). WAF is pretty high because of the stylish looks & good form factor.
Nice touch of rubber grommets for the HDD on the bottom.
  * Hard drives could be WD Geen or Hitachi death^H^H^Hskstar. idles 5watts
or less than standard HDD
  * for low power usage since it's going to double as a NAS, go for:
    * Intel branded mobos if possible rather than asus/gigabyte/msi etc. it
idles 3-4 watts less than standard HDD.
    * picoPSU power supply 120-150watts. You can easily shave 12 or more
watts or more just by using these.
  * 4GB of RAM or less should be fine.

On my end, paid a bit more for the Intel i3 2100T, and was mildly surprised
that it idles similarly to my Atom Revo at 23watts!
