Aside from the learning experience one gets in setting up a DNS root server,
what would it be good for?

Yes, it is for the DNS root server.
According to Louis, a root server does not have to be a monopoly. Anyone can
set up their own. I really don't know the details, but I'm very interested. But
learning by onesself is a lonely task. The more the merrier. And maybe Louis
and his colleagues will be more willing to tutor us if there are many who will
listen.
Kelsey mentions a root kit server. I don't really know what this means or how
different is it from the OpenRoot approach.
Since this list has been somewhat inactive in the past months, maybe we can do
the learning process/exchange right here? (with the moderator's permission of
course...)
