If Ubuntu is more up to date Mesa wise than CentOS latest release, it
might support some of the games I mentioned.  Thing is, a
sufficient Windows clone if one existed would also do the job and
certainly even if WINE will do the job that's an emulation approach
where one must have a fast enough computer.

I don't know, Linux can be booted from Freedos using loadlin, but then
I am waiting quite a while to get into X just to run Firefox.
I'm concerned about having enough processing power to run Firefox,
X, and Linux.

As far as the problem is you chose an RHEL clone...  Why doesn't someone
roll a MESA update for CentOS 5.3?

Is a Pentium III 450 fast enough for Ubuntu these days???
