Folks,

Not quite on the topic of home-brew quad cores, I've been looking at the
Dell PowerEdge T110 or maybe the T310 (hoping for a special for Cyber
Monday)

http://www.dell.com/us/en/business/servers/server-poweredge-t310/pd.aspx?refid=server-poweredge-t310&s=bsd&cs=04

People here have knocked good sense into me before w/r/t hardware, and
I'm hoping y'all can do the same if needed with respect to these
options.

But for now, I'm a little tired of running low on memory every time I
have more than a couple of VMware systems going. My current system (an
eBay home brew - is coming up on 5 years) is limited to 2GB.

Yup, the RAM for such servers is more expensive, but perhaps c'est la
vie w/r/t servers? I may need to experiment with some VMware ESXi, and
appreciate the bare metal capabilities, so I have little confidence in
my ability to set up a home brew with such compatibility.

I also appreciate the no-OS options for these systems, along with the
known compatibility with the standard Linux server OSes.

Your comments will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike
