Okay Mogerly, you go ahead and be happy with DELL selling you a
computer with Linux "pre installed" when there is no installed
operating system. You listen to DELL tell you that they won't
install the advertised Linux system because they "don't support
it," and then listen to them push installing an older version of
Ubuntu Linux, 8.04.

I would rather fdisk and reinstall on an Asus laptop then put up
with DELL selling me a "Linux pre installed" laptop that they won't
install the advertised version of Linux onto. DELL didn't argue
for 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours, but indeed DELL argued for
5 hours. DELL's argument that they can't come up with media to
install Ubuntu Mobilon 2.1 from is complete nonsense. That Ubuntu
Mobilon 2.1 is in the contract and they refused to install it, that
is bait and switch. You don't dilute the DELL name by advertising
Linux Ubuntu 9.1.0 Mobilon 2.1 pre installed and then refuse to
install it. The inaction on DELL's part even when the machine was
in the shop getting the hard drive replaced defies reason. DELL
could have and should have installed Mobilon 2.1 when the hard
drive was replaced.

This is a very big deal. DELL broke the law and then tried to get me
to accept an inferior solution. Took Drew a few minutes to find the
OS that DELL was supposed to install on this laptop, but DELL couldn't
tell me even after 5 hours of being on the phone with them.

I'd rather repurpose an ASUS laptop with Windows 7 pre installed for
Linux than fight with DELL. The way DELL handled this laptop order,
everyone lost. This is the one of the stupidest things a computer
builder can do. DELL alienated a long time customer and lost
money to boot via 5 hours of telephone run around. DELL may need to
reconsider who it hires for tech support and customer care.

Mogerly, I am not incapable of using Internet search engines. I do not
need your expletives after witnessing my own mother brought to tears by
the run around and rudeness of some of DELL's employees. There is an
old saying, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything
at all," that I think applies in your case. If the you can't use search
engines comment applies to the WinNUT issues I ran into, I explained
that the answer wasn't obvious. It wasn't obvious that I needed to look
at the page for older versions of WinNUT to get a release that would
work.
