IIRC, there are a number of bugs related to wicd and hidden networks,
esp related to encryption. The following google seems to confirm:

wicd "hidden network"

Other question -- I know I see hidden networks with an empty SSID when I
run the following command in RHEL 6 and Ubuntu 10.04

iwlist wlan0 scan

If that command reveals hidden networks, you probably can set up a
connection manually with some variation of iwconfig. (I know something
like the following works on a WEP network:)

Thanks,
Mike
