It sounds like a read only mask is set for the automount.
Here in the Fedora guide

it mentions a file /etc/auto.master  and a configurable /misc file
pointing to /etc/auto.misc
/etc/auto.misc contains the default mounting options for various file systems.

Do you have such a file and what does it say?
