You might have something that runs automatically when you insert a DVD and that could be causing the occasional crash. I don't know what that something is on your system because it varies with distribution. XFCE I think uses something called Thunar to configure this behavior. If you have something like that running you could temporarily turn it off and see if your problem disappears.
