AFAIK, the Ubuntu add-on is for Unity integration and getting the menu bar to work as most of us expect/desire (i.e. alwyas present in the app window. FWIW, on regular Ubuntu 14.04 (with Unity), I've never seen the issue that started this thread, and FF is now at verion 39.
