I think MediaTomb Setup was easier than ReadyMedia like 6 years ago (or was it minidlna then?) I actually used xbmc on an xbox, and it has always worked great for me, used it on a Raspberry pi for my media for a while... Bet Kodi would run great on the Pi 3. All these opinions are based on really old versions of the apps you mentioned....
