The manual for my monitor shows no way to  perform a reset other than
through the on screen display (OSD).  So the monitor is stuck in hdmi mode
and has no osd.

I can try the reboot into recovery.  The last time I did that I got a
display.  Maybe only some resolution modes are working in the monitor or
the display card.
