I don't recall the details, but I believe I'm using some part of the GNOME keyring manager here. After logging in, the first attempt to use ssh will pop up a window asking for my passphrase. All subsequent use of ssh does not require the passphrase. My desktop is XFCE, but I have the appropriate GNOME pieces installed to make this work. What those pieces are, I don't remember.
