Yes, but likely not quite as intended <chuckle>
Your experience supports the idea that USB compatibility with Linux is 
likely a non-issue.

However, investigating Plantronics and Jabra has eliminated them as 
possible vendors. Neither publishes the specifications which interest 
me, i.e. microphone bandwidth, resolution, and sample rate. Common 
features of their websites also hints that providers targeting the 
market represented by Skype et. al. are unlikely to provide the 
information I require. I will not be using a wireless device as it costs 
money with no interesting benefit. If the headset comes with earphones 
that is OK, but they are not a requirement.
