USB detects devices in an unpredictable order. this behavior is inherent to the design. there are also plenty of conditions that can cause a USB host to reset, causing a re-detection of all devices while the system is running. you're already switching to labels, so this won't make any difference once you get that working. but thought it may be useful to keep in mind in the future. -wes
