Summary:

Fedora has been experimenting with immutable, OSTree-based versions
(https://fedoraproject.org/atomic-desktops) as a new paradigm for the
Linux desktop, focused more on containers and Flatpaks instead of
traditional package management. What does any of this jargon mean, and
how did they replace the package manager? I'll explain what this is all
about, from the underlying technology up to how I use this for taking
the headaches out of managing my developer workstation.

Just a quick recap on the meeting last night:

We had a nice turn out, a little over 20 people I think, partly because of a contingent of students from willamette.edu. It was fun to have you all there and please come back any time!

And, thanks to Robert for the interesting talk!

We have speakers lined up for the next few months, at least tentatively, and should have no problem with the venue other than the outside door problem, which is manageable. We had two people (that we know about) who came late and were able to contact me via SMS at the number on the door sign and get let in with only a few minutes of latency. And an unknown number, possibly zero, possibly 40, who didn't SMS me, didn't door draft anyone, or couldn't follow the rickety signs or navigate the building to find our room (sincere apologies to them for it not being easier).

Next month is supposed to be a talk on PSAS (the Portland State rocket club and cubesat program), and then April is supposed to be a developer from PostmarketOS. And we have a few more people suggesting they have talks in preparation. Keep it up, people, this is how we develop some post-pandemic momentum!

I'd kind of like to see us restart a monthly clinic too. Is there anyone who would like to lead that?
