The format for an e-mail message's Date: header is defined in RFC
5322. The GNU date utility can produce it using the -R, --rfc-email
option:
[heinlein@gladstone cur]$ date -R
Wed, 08 Oct 2025 08:45:59 -0700
I suspect mail clients are able to translate that format to the local
timezone without much trouble.
