I have very good experience with Ubiquiti routers and other network gear - it is good quality HW for decent price.
I manage it locally without any online accounts. Their Unifi line needs a Controller or Site Manager server to be configured - once the config is done - it doesn't need it, if you do not care about graphing and log/data gathering. Some of their gateways can install and run Unifi Controller on the router/gateway itself. Some may even support Site Manager for multisite orchestration/config. For years, I have run Unifi Controller on Raspberry Pi. These days, I have powerful enough gateway/router to run it on the HW itself. Mine has 2.5Gb WAN port + a few 2.5Gb downstream ports. I use just single downstream port to feed my lan switch. In my case, it can support link speed routing and firewall with a couple of WireGuard servers running on it. In my case the WG rate is between 200-300Mb. They update the SW regularly. I have 5-ish year old HW which still gets updates. The UXG fiber looks more powerful than my UCG MAX.
