[plug] Blocked connections

I have an Slackware e-mail server where I use Outlook Express to fetch mails from it. Once in a while, I used to telnet the server then pine and so and so. But just yesterday it couldnt connect, I thought, it was just a DNS problem, so I tried to telnet using its IP but with the same result. I pinged the server and gives me a connection. I looked @ the inetd.conf, but the services telnet and ftp are not disabled. What seems to be the problem?
