Linux does support both hardware and software IDE RAID. It depends on what
hardware IDE RAID controller you're tlaking about, though. 3Ware's
Escalade controllers are good, albeit a little pricey. They're also very
well supported by the Linux kernel, as they've been doing their part to
ensure this. Last check, the 3W-6400 controller (UDMA/66, 4 channels, four
drives, hardware RAID 0, 1, 0+1) was HK$2200 FOB/HK.
You may want to check what controller this particular mobo uses, and make
sure the latest Linux kernel (or whatever you decide to use) supports it.
Another thing you can do is get your dual CPU mobo here, and then get a
3Ware controller from Hong Kong or Singapore. :)
I don't think the Promise Fastrak/66 is supported by Linux yet. Anyone got
updated news on this?
