if you want to _add_ the 4gb and not replace the old 2gb,
you may try the ff (that is, if you don't have a LVM yet):

1. just install the new 4gb hd
2. format it with mkfs /dev/hdx
3. edit your /etc/fstab and place it there as /home2
4. edit your /etc/default/useradd to place new users' homedirs under /home2
5. no need to transfer from /home to /home2
   /home will still hold homedirs of old users
   while /home2 will hold homedirs of new users
