A socket 7 fan is a big problem for me too. About 10 fans conked-out in just a year!
tip #1:
Don't buy that same brand or kind. (usually it has a different name at the other side
of the fan e.g. cpu cooler for instance). Look for a double bearing type not sleeve.
With sleeve bearing it easily accumulates dust in its sleeve (don't ask me how). You
can
either use 12Volts or 5 volts (be careful not to put a 5V fan to a 12V supply!!!)
tip#2:
salvage an old intel pentium fan(or if you're lucky- a slot one fan) and attached it
to the heatsink of the S7. The way it holds the screws or bolts (usually metal screw)
is with the two adjacent fins crimped just enough to let the screw in and be held
tightly.
The size of the fan doesn't matter(at least!). It's that constant forced-air that
cools the CPU.
tip#3:
If you're a surplus wanderer you can find some in HMR. Almost all small fans are US
made but sometimes they sell that same brand like yours.
tip#4:
Let us know if you found some!
