Yes, Zope has a user security model but it is very different from the unix
model (it doesn't have a 'group' concept as of yet , this is still under
discussion). It also has plug-ins that can interface with LDAP, Unix passwd db,
NT Domain security as well as RDBMs so it can use their user/passwd database 
(or you can roll your own) for authentication.

Since Zope is a webserver/web-based app server, I guess the web browser is 
your client...
