hello all,
i am trying to get video capture working. i am using an ATI AIW Radeon. i
tried using XFree86-4.0.2 and actually got DRI working (yeah, it's just
like Nvidia GeForce cards, zero CPU utilization on the OpenGL screensavers
thanks to the "Charisma Engine").. although I prefer ATI because the
driver is 100% open-source.. hurrah..
i compiled Video4Linux into the kernel, but there is no Radeon-specific
driver. I then went to www.linuxvideo.org/gatos/ they have a driver
(ati.2) which works with the Rage Theatre chipset on XFree86 4.0.x, it
allegedly supports video capture as well as XVideo (the Rage Theatre has
some pretty neat features for video like 4-tap filtering, x- and
y-interpolation, and iDCT hardware acceleration). however i don't have a
clue if things work.. there's nothing useful in /var/log/XFree86.log that
would make me assume that video capture is now enabled.
has *anyone* gotten video capture working on linux? with any chipset? the
last time i tried this was with a monochrome Connectix QuickCam (it was
fun running "vat" and "vic" from the MBONE tools) and that was pretty
easy, a userland-only (at the time.. 1996) solution.
thanks,
orly
