That's Debian for you! Like you said, StormLinux is based on Debian, so
you can imagine what the "real thing" can do for you. :)

With Debian you do a "base install" of actually just a few floppy disks
worth. Then you do some basic setup (using an application that auto-loads)
and then can either install packages basic or advanced. Advanced launches
dselect, which is a text-based front-end to apt, that allows you to pick
what applications to load. You should be able to set up a really small
installation this way. Much better (for me, at least) than RedHat's
"install first, then crack your head trimming down".

Just thought I'd share why I prefer Debian, despite some drawbacks it may
have once in awhile (like having to trust the unstable tree to get the
latest applications you want, but then the unstable tree is pretty stable
most of the time compared to some other distros I know). Please don't take
this as flamewar bait. :)
