May 2001 might be old news for you, but for Linux folks in Manila
this is great news! Because the Compaq guys can do it does not mean
it is easy -- try doing it and find out how complicated it can be.

Linux is open source. You normally have to build the Linux image from
source code before you can flash it into your iPAQ. But before
you can do this, you need to build the tools on your Linux PC with which
to build the Linux image for your iPAQ. And linux won't work all
by itself. You need the C library, the shell program and the
applications. All of this you must build from source.

But why build from source? So that you can modify the program in order
to improve it, and so that you can share your mods with others.
This way, software improves, and the improvements are shared by all.

Sacha must have downloaded just the binaries, and used that to flash
her iPAQ. I that will not be the only topic of her talk, because that
would be boring, even for us, Linux folks.
