Please don't confuse what Squid can support with what its intended function
is.

AFAIK, Squid *does not* proxy SSL (and the Squid list archives mention
that). It simply lets SSL connections pass thru unmodified using port 443
(by default). SSL connections are encrypted and you cannot proxy something
that you cannot see!

> ICP, HTCP, CARP, Cache Digests
> transparent caching
> WCCP (Squid v2.3 and above)
> extensive access controls
> HTTP server acceleration
> SNMP
> caching of DNS lookups
Yep, it supports all these but it still doesn't change the fact that Squid
is a HTTP proxy/cache. Oh yeah, note that IRC isn't there :-)
