Quoting only the part you are replying to is the proper and gracious way of replying to any post in any mailing list, specially a techie list like PLUG. I shows preparation and care on the part of the respondent. Not only does the reply show courtesy, but also does it exude respect for the other members of the list who might not have all the time or energy to sift through redundant material. I second Rino Nardo's suggestion here. May I also make the addendum that doing SMS-style abbreviations in an email is the height of laziness and borders on rudeness. While abbreviations might be acceptable (and to some, fashionable), when doing SMS using a cellphone capable of only 160 characters per message, they are inexcusable when the respondent has at his disposal a high-tech full-screen, gui mail user agent that can do spell checks and grammar checks.
