either one of the following:

-- problem with your nic driver.  What's your card, kernel version?

maybe you have another server running on port 23 (it may be the result of
a sucessful hack-in), or you are trying to run xinetd when it is already
running.

i'm assuming you made a typo and it's a 3C905B, ala pa yatang 985..
You kernel version's driver is know to be stable.

make sure your box has not been hacked.
