While I'm still using 7.1 on my laptop, I have gotten the latest patches for ext3 to my kernel and have been using them quite happily. Migration was quite painless to say the least, and it took all but a few moments of my time. I haven't tried to do serious benchmarking on it yet, but I have the feeling that speed-wise ext3 will probably be comparable in performance to ext2. Reiserfs looks like the future, but frankly I don't think it's entirely stable at this point...Until I can get tools that can non-destructively convert existing ext2 partitions to reiserfs I doubt that I'll be using it any time soon... Hard disks are also in short supply; I find I wind up using most of my money to get "other things"... -- Rafael R.
