I've attached an HP DAT drive to one of my Linux boxes. The problem is that this machine doesn't have an external SCSI port (internal NCR SCSI controller), so I plugged in an old Adaptec 2940 that was lying around and plugged the SCSI tape into that.
The 2940 is detected by the kernel, but the tape drive is not. There's this one guy on the SUSE-AXP list who has the same problem but no solution there.
